A standard playthrough of Hogwarts Legacy will take around 35 hours to complete according to details sourced from a leaked art book. If you're going for 100 per cent completion, though, with all side quests completed, it's claimed you will need to set aside roughly 70 hours.
These estimates can always vary, of course, but it seems like a lot of optional content is taken up by "nearly 100" Merlin puzzles spread throughout Hogwarts, which task you with utilising all of your magical skills and knowledge to solve them. It's also claimed the main quest will be slightly different depending on what house you're put in, and some students will even get to visit Azkaban. You can read more details through here.
Hogwarts Legacy releases for PS5 on 10th February 2023, but you can grab three days of early access via the Deluxe Edition. A PS4 version is also planned, but it will launch later. Most recently, it was confirmed the game will offer 30fps and 60fps modes, while also supporting VRR. Will you be gunning for 100 per cent completion in Hogwarts Legacy? One of the few games I’m interested in fully completing. It’s just an excuse to explore every minuscule corner of Hogwarts, would be a delight rather than a chore. Haven’t bought a game yet for 2023, this might be the first one 🙂
70 hours is massive for 100% completion but, given the huge areas they said we would have access to and the mythical beasts we can use as a tamagotchi as it were, I expected more?
I still hope to feel that magical atmosphere of the first Harry Potter games, but each time I see something like "100+ hours of content" and "1000 collectibles and puzzles" something dies inside of me
Preordered Hogwarts Legacy though, we'll see...
Length seems good and they can add more story content with DLC expansions in the future.
I just hope that the open world hasn't been cut and paste like Ubisoft as hate that design.
I’ll be looking to finish both the story campaign and trophy campaign, which I imagine would itself require completion of almost everything in the game, if not everything. Happy to sit in good RPGS for 200hrs or so (with Yakuza games for example) and the more tasks and side activities the better.
Is it worthwhile watching all the movies before this game releases (never seen any of them)? I feel like I’d get more out of the game if I knew some of the lore.
@ItsBritneyB_tch
This is set a couple of hundred years before the books and movies j believe, so shouldn’t be necessary. Although if you have, and love the world, I imagine it will be better.
35 hours is perfect length. I have a feeling I may want to savor this game though!

I'm very curious to see how this one will pan out once it starts getting reviews. The last HP game I played (and enjoyed) was the Sorcerer's Stone on GBC (the simple RPG one).
I hope this one turns out well enough, wouldn't mind buying it on sale.
@InternetUser
Hah, that gave me a chuckle.
@ItsBritneyB_tch I plan to do so anyways & I’ve read all the books and watched all the movies multiple times.
As mentioned it’s set well before the events of Harry Potter, but it would help flesh out the world. For example the article mentions Azkaban which is a major setting for the 3rd movie/book.
Now that I think about it you might encounter Dumbledore he’d be around 9/10 which might make him a first year.
@InternetUser smh this is why the disclaimer has to be over every comment section cuz of crap comments like this
I’ve actually preordered the physical deluxe version of this, as one online retailer is selling it for less than the PS store standard edition price! Can’t wait for this 🙂

Cant wait. Judging by almost every other game, if people are stating 70 hours for completion then I will take at least 150 plus.
Though that's a lot of time to spend on one game, I've a feeling this particular title will be worth it.
@ItsBritneyB_tch the games has nothing to do with Harry Potter, it’s set 150 years before he was born. Maybe watch the movies after the game.
If it's good I'll definitely be spending more hours in it than those puny estimates 😅 but I won't be going for 100% knowingly, especially if a lot of that is repetitive puzzles for little story or character growth reward.
Exploring organically, finding interesting things between quests and utilising photomode, if there is one, is how I'll be spending my time. Oh, and raising some fantastic beasts.
Hoping for some favourable reviews regarding how complete a state it releases in, as I want this to be the best open world RPG of 23 and get in early 😁🪄
Well, I know what I'm going to be doing this year...
@ItsBritneyB_tch You can watch the movies if you want too but no need as it is set much before the Harry Potter lore. But as for me, I'm going to try to finish reading the books all over again by 7th to get all the easter eggs:)
@VivianXD2464 Surprised you’re keeping that avatar 😬
35 hours for main + side 70 for 100% seems smaller than I expected from this game, actually. Isn't HzD something like 60 hours main + side? This sounds closer to GoW2018, which isnt' bad really but I figured with the Hogwarts open environment there'd be more RPG levels of getting lost in questing.
♥️
Thank you. This means so much.
Very excited to start this one! This plus Like A Dragon Ishin will make my February!
Apparently it's already the #1 selling game on Steam and PS5, #2 on Xbox according to Forbes. Hopefully it's longer, wonder if it'll have a NG+? The game looks really good from what I've seen of it.
Day 1 Purchase Confirmed.
I must say that 70 hours doesn’t seem like a lot. I imagine this means that the game I’ll take about three weeks to finish.
But there should also be lots of replay value, depending. upon the characters you create. I mean, that a Slytherin playthrough should be very different to a Hufflepuff playthrough.
If the game is faithful to the “Wizarding World” I would love to thoroughly explore it.
I can remember sinking about 200 hours into Dragon Age Inquisition
Sounds like a good length to me.
@ItsBritneyB_tch
As someone else commented, the game will be set about a century before the books/films.
That said, the films are definitely worth watching anyway. They are all very good. And you will understand the game’s world better for having done so.
And as usual - the books are better than the films. But, be warned, some of the books are HUGE.
@NEStalgia From the article it sounds like 35 hours is for the main story, not including side content, which would be significantly longer than HZD if I remember correctly
Already preordered on switch and ps5 but tempted to get steam deck version.
Looks good, good length and seems like they’ve nailed the rich world.
Bit worried about some of the comments about some aspects of the game I’ve heard but hopefully as we hear more it’s just positive stuff.
@Logonogo ohh, I was thinking this was story+side quests, not just main story. Ok that's longer then!
Excellent news. Digital Deluxe edition pre-ordered. I think it might take me closer to 100hrs for full completion given all of the exploration I'll be doing 😁
Western games always seem to need patching at launch but I'll eventually check this out.

@sonicmeerkat tis not a western phenomena as nearly all but a handful of games from all over the world need patching to some degree day 1..
Glad to see the disclaimer has been updated so its not so open to interpretation..lets hope EVERYBODY can abide 👍
Really hope this leak is correct 70 hours for 100% is prefect time for me. not to long like assassins creed 100+ and not to short for the type of game It is.

The game does look fantastic, and HP fans fever dream. People should buy this game to support everyone involved in the game.
@Nightcrawler71 And which retailer is that?
70 hours is reasonable. For me, that likely means over 100, the way that I play.
@nessisonett uh avatar??
@Almost_Ghostly Shopto are selling the deluxe version for about £63. On the PS store it’s £65/£75 for the standard/deluxe versions. The deluxe version also includes 3 days early access, so releases on 7 Feb, and the standard version on 10 Feb.
70 hours omg! I'm gonna be mad at myself for taking 2 months to platinum this game, but still gonna be a day one purchase.
@Nightcrawler71 Ah. I'm in the US so that would be a no go for me. I did get $75 of PSN credit for $55 though, so I bought the Digital Deluxe for $20 off.
